Alternative Health Module

Available 24 hours a day via the Internet, Health & Wellness Resource Center's Alternate Health Module provides a one stop, full-service resource for alternative and complimentary therapies. It provides a rich collection of books, journals, magazines and pamphlets for consumers and health care professionals.

This module displays additional information on alternative topics such as, herbal remedies, yoga, homeopathy, midwifery, chiropractic and more. This module is a nice compliment to Health & Wellness Resource Center.

Find alternative medicine-focused magazines, journals, newspapers, definitions, directories, videos, & reference information on: Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Pregnancy, Herbal remedies, etc. Included are links to diet, cancer, health assessment sites & government databases. Easily access 700+ videos from Healthology, Inc.'s consumer health video library. Spanish-language videos are available.

This database is a first stop index tool for learning where to look for biographical material on people from all time periods, geographical locations and fields of endeavor. Biography and Genealogy Master Index indexes any print product that includes biographical information on multiple persons. It also acts as an index to other indexes.

Biography Resource Center + Marquis Who's Who

Search for current or historic people by name, occupation, nationality, ethnicity, birth/death dates and places, or gender, or by keyword and full text. Patrons can find biographies with full-text magazine articles, images, and website links. The Marquis Who's Who module provides quick reference information on over 1 million additional people.

Business Searching Interface

The Business Searching Interface (BSI) is EBSCO's highly focused user interface created especially for the business searcher. BSI provides an easy way to both browse and search for country economic data, company profiles, industry information and market research.

The Business Searching Interface was designed to take full advantage of all of the diverse content available in our Business Source Premier, Business Source Premier: Alumni Edition, Business Source Corporate, and Business Source Complete databases - the definitive research tools for business journals and other sources.

The Business Searching Interface is a completely separate user experience from the typical EBSCOhost experience. Since this interface was designed exclusively for the Business Source suite of databases, users should be directed to BSI when they are searching for business information.

Business Source Elite

Business Source Elite provides full text coverage for nearly 1,100 business periodicals ranging from general magazines to trade publications and top management journals. Business Source Elite contains expanded PDF backfiles for 150 titles (back to 1985 or the first issue published for that journal).

Regional Business News is a supplemental database for customers of Business Source Elite. With daily updates, Regional Business News provides comprehensive full text for regional business publications (including titles from Crain Communications). This databases provides the full text for more than 8,800 serials and provides indexing, abstracts and full text back to 1965 (or the first issue published for that journal). Business Source Premier provides comprehensive coverage in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, banking, finance, etc. Additional full text, non-journal content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses.

Business Source Premier contains full text from the world's top management and marketing journals including Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Review, Industrial & Labor Relations Review, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Marketing Research (JMR), etc. The database also includes other sources of full text information such as country economic reports from the EIU, Global Insight, ICON Group and CountryWatch and detailed company profiles for the world's 10,000 largest companies.

Career Cruising

Career Cruising is a database that lets the user find information on virtually every career that is available. Specifically, the user can find information about careers and find a Job Description, Working Conditions, Earnings, Education, Career Path, find Related Jobs and Other Resources. Interviews with people involved in the job are available as well. 

Career Cruising is an online database with 4 different components. The Career Matchmaker section enables the user to take an interactive survey that helps the user find careers that match his/her interests. The Explore Careers section enables user to view a multimedia interview with real people in every career. In addition, career information is available in this section. The College and University section allows the user to learn about various colleges and universities across the country. You can find out where to get the education you need to start your career in a specific field.  The Helpful Information section includes Resources for Career Advisors and Teachers.

The Community Resource Database of Long Island is a free, online directory of health, human service, and education agencies and programs on Long Island – services for children, teens, adults, families, and seniors in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. 

With detailed information on nearly 12,000 community resources, the CRD provides instant, keyword access to essential information for Long Island individuals and organizations. The CRD is current, with information added and updated on a daily basis. 

What's included in the Community Resource Database of Long Island?

Health services, counseling & substance abuse services, support groups, child care and elder care, education and training programs, food and emergency services, parenting education, housing assistance, disability services, literacy and GED classes, family violence services, financial management assistance, hotlines, volunteer opportunities, houses of worship, schools, camps and youth services, libraries, chambers of commerce, civic and other community organizations. 

Each entry contains detailed information, including:

  • Agency - the official name of the organization, 

  • Resource/Program - specific programs of each agency,

Consulta 2.0 gathers reference material, primary sources and journal articles in one easy-to-navigate Web-based product for students and general researchers. Consulta also includes more than 6,200 full-color photographs, maps and artwork. 

Also, Consulta allows the user to easily switch between English and Spanish. 

The database offers reference works for students, professionals and general readers on subjects such as careers, health, history and literature. Consulta 2.0 includes a graphical Timeline as well as a Map Center, Anatomical Atlas and Literature Library.

EBSCOhost Web Text Only is designed for users with older browsers and operating systems, and for users who require ADA compliance. EBSCOhost Web Text Only offers functionality comparable to EBSCOhost Web. In addition. EBSCOhost-Text Only does not incorporate images into its interface, is frameless (except when using PDF files), does not require cookies, does not incorporate JavaScript (except for non-essential functions) and is fully ADA-compliant.

Eldercare

This resource serves as a reliable source of eldercare-related information that can be used to empower consumers to make intelligent, informed eldercare decisions. CareScout's (who partnered with EBSCO to create this database) national senior care database is the underlying foundation of EBSCO Eldercare. 

Users can make use of the database’s sophisticated search environment to gain access to proprietary, comprehensive reports to over 90,000 eldercare facilities and services throughout the United States including: 95% of all certified nursing homes (17,000 reports); 45,000 assisted living facilities; 23,000 home health care programs; 3,500 adult day care centers; and 3,000 hospice organizations. All of the included reports are between 3-15 pages in length, and many include ratings & rankings as well as demographic information about the facilities.

ERIC

 

Educational Resource Information Center (ERIC), provides access to education literature and resources.  ERIC provides full text of more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information & citations & abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals.

General Business File ASAP

Grove's Dictionary of Art

Grove Art Online provides web access to the entire text of The Dictionary of Art, ed. Jane Turner (1996, 34 vols.) and The Oxford Companion to Western Art, ed. Hugh Brigstocke (2001). Ongoing additions of new and updated articles, over 2,500 thumbnail art images and line drawings displayed in the text of articles, extensive image links are included in the database.

Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians

The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, second edition, edited by Stanley Sadie and John Tyrell, was published simultaneously in print and online as Grove Music Online in January 2001. Grove Music Online began to develop independently immediately; regular revisions and additions to the content began in Spring of 2001 and continue today through an ambitious editorial programme. In addition to the regular programme of revisions and new articles, Grove Music Online has grown to include The New Grove Dictionary of Opera (published in print in 1992 and online in 1999) and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, second edition (2001). Through a partnership with Sibelius notation software, over 500 of Grove's musical examples are now available in sound as well as notated examples.

This resource provides access to nearly 300 full text, consumer health periodicals, including American Fitness, Better Nutrition, Fit Pregnancy, Harvard Health Letter, HealthFacts, Men's Health, Muscle & Fitness, Prevention, Vegetarian Times, and many others. 

This database also includes searchable full text for more than 1,000 health-related pamphlets and 129 health reference books, including books published by the People's Medical Society. Consumer Edition covers topics such as AIDS, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, aging, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, children's health, women's health, etc.

History Resource Center - U.S.

History Resource Center: U.S. provides integrated access to over 4,000 historical (primary) documents, articles from more than 30 reference titles, and over 110 full-text journal covering themes, events, individuals and periods in U.S. history from pre-Colonial times to the present. The material also includes citations from over 180 additional history journals from the Institute for Scientific Information's Arts and Humanities Citation Index, as well as the entire "American Journey Online" series.

HeritageQuest Online

HeritageQuest Online™ combines digital, searchable images of U.S. federal census records with the digitized version of the popular UMI® Genealogy & Local History collection and other valuable content. This online database is an essential collection of unique material for both genealogical and historical researchers, with coverage dating back to the late 1700s. Patrons can use HeritageQuest Online to find their ancestors, trace their paths across America , and learn what life was like in the areas where they settled.

HeritageQuest Online includes all of the images, and extensive indexing, from the 1790 - 1930 U.S. federal censuses. It offers more than 20,000 book titles, including nearly 8,000 family histories and over 12,000 local histories. Additionally, there are more than 250 primary-source documents such as tax lists, city directories, probate records, and more.

History Reference Center

 

The database features full text for more than 1,500 reference books, encyclopedias and non-fiction books.  The database also includes full text for more than 100 leading history periodicals. The database contains 58,000 historical documents; 43,000 biographies of historical figures; more than 12,000 historical photos and maps; and more than 80 hours of historical video.

Image Collection

 

The Image Collection database consists of over 100,000 total images in these categories, broken down as follows 70,000+ photos, 30,000+ images from Canadian Press, 1,200+ maps from MapQuest, 500+ photos from public domain sources.

The images consist of a wide array of photos and maps, with an emphasis on world news and events. Other areas of coverage include contemporary and historical photos of people, places and the natural kingdom.

MagillOnLiterature Plus combines all the quality content of both Magill On Literature and MagillOnAuthors. Middle Search

 

Middle Search Plus contains full text for more than 140 popular, middle school magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies, historical essays and student pamphlets. 

 

Additionally, Middle Search Plus contains primary source documents including Essential Documents in American History, reference books including the Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia and American Heritage Dictionary, 4th Edition from Houghton Mifflin, the Encyclopedia of Animals, and an Image Collection of 192,999 photos, maps and flags. Middle Search Plus also includes the Our States reference book series from Great Neck Publishing, a new collection made up of 54 titles on each of the states, commonwealths and territories in the United States.
